THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6 | TSP NO.4 | Women Behind The Camera : Female Creativity In Film
Since the inception of THE SIDE PROJECT, the independent screening series Raconteur co-created with our friends at Therapy Studios, we’ve talked about an event focused on projects by female directors and creatives. Why, you may ask? Well, check out the ratio of male to female directors on any given credit list or roster and you’ll notice for the most part it weighs significantly towards the gender with facial hair. And a commonly heard phrase is, “There just aren’t that many female directors.” Sites like The Director List prove that that’s not true – but translating truth into work is a different story. Exposure is key.
We’re glad we waited, because this screening couldn’t be more timely. Conversations around gender and diversity have taken center stage this year, and as our friends at the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media say, “If she can see it, she can be it.”
We are thrilled to announce that the theme of our next screening on Thursday, October 6 will be on work by female directors and creatives.
