Award-winning audio shop Elias has been receiving a lot of buzz lately – including a triple hit on SHOOT today – for their work on Intel and Toshiba’s social landmark social film experience, “The Power Inside.”
Conceived by Pereira & O’Dell, “The Power Inside” is the third branded film from Intel and Toshiba that sees the tech giants partnering with Hollywood’s top talents, asking them to harness the theme in a blockbuster-class film experience, released online in six episodes. The film follows actors Harvey Keitel, Craig Roberts, Analeigh Tipton, Reid Ewing and Zack Pearlman in the tale of an atypical mustachioed zombie alien invasion that showcases the diverse range of sound Elias is known for. Elias composed all of the music for the film, shot by Furlined directing duo Will Speck and Josh Gordon of Blades of Glory fame, with the project marking the first led by the Elias’ new Executive Creative Director, Brent Nichols.
SHOOT published a Reflections piece with owner/founder Jonathan Elias, in which he talks about passing the creative torch to Nichols, who joins the Elias collective after a decade serving as creative director/composer at Sam Spiegal’s music house, Squeak E. Clean Productions. There, Nichols established a reputation for his forward-thinking, multi-faceted compositions, and stand-apart skill for developing a brand’s musical voice, garnering professional awards from virtually every industry community ranging from AICP, AICE and One Show Awards, Clios, Cannes Lions and D&AD Pencils.
SHOOT’s in-depth article explores just how Nichols led the talents of the Elias team to deftly set the tone for the film that range from suspenseful to wildly campy, producing a refreshingly original score that ranges from epic string-driven dramatic cues to programming-heavy distortion.
The film’s bold, relevant sound earned Elias the #1 spot in SHOOT’s Top 10 Tracks Chart for Fall 2013, signaling an exciting chapter in Elias’ musical story as an audio shop that consistency balances its legacy with a contemporary ear.
