Justin Timberlake is back with The 20/20 Experience – and this time it’s personal. The singer enlisted Floria Sigmismondi to direct the striking new video for his second single, “Mirrors.” It’s an imaginative telling of a couple’s saga revealed through non-linear glimpses of their relationship over time: teenaged courtship, the difficulties of marriage, old age, and, eventually, death.
The emotional video honors Timberlake’s grandparents, William (who recently passed away) and Sadie, who were married for 63 years. Near the 6-minute mark, the beat slows down and it is in this ending scene where we first see Justin. In cap-toe Louboutins, he performs an emotional dance sequence in a hall of mirrors.
“Mirrors” is, by far, the most artistic video that Justin Timberlake ever done, so it’s no surprise that the Black Dog director is at the helm of this touching re-telling. Floria conveys a decades-spanning synchronized connection with heartbreakingly beautiful visuals, crafting a cinematic ode that gives the sweeping song another layer of meaning.
