WHITEHOUSE POST Cuts DSquared2’s Vampy Film by Mert+Marcus

March 8th, 2013

Interview Magazine recently hosted a premiere screening of the newest fashion film by the legendary Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for DSquared2’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The black and white short film stars the luxe label’s creative directors, twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten.  Already gorgeous gents, the campaign comes with an androgynous twist, with a cross-dressing duplication taking on the role of a vampy femme.

The female and male personas flash in and out of frame with brilliant editing by Charlie Harvey of Whitehouse Post London.  Charlie’s snappy, jilted cuts keep us disoriented as we’re hurtled through the maze of mirrors forever copying their glamorous and slightly sinister reflections. The viewer is always kept one frame behind,  left to wonder if it was a reflection or someone else entirely that is waiting “Behind the Mirror.”

With a nod to Hitchcockian nior, the HSI-produced film captivates the viewer with questions about inner and outer reflection, illusion and reality…and how could a man make women’s clothing look SO damn good? (Really, watch – he could pass for Rear Window Grace Kelly in a 90’s-inspired corset!)
